چکیده

The presence of S. aureus (SA) by skin culture correlates with barrier function (TEWL) and atopic dermatitis (AD) severity. In contrast, SA infections are rare in psoriasis (PS), little is known about whether abundance plays a role PS We utilized highly quantitative measures total bacterial burden measuring femA 16S rRNA qPCR, respectively, from lesional (L) nonlesional (NL) swabs. also quantified live colony counts (CFU/cm2) (L & NL) AD skin. Disease severity was assessed (PASI for or EASI AD). Thirteen (54%F; 38±12yrs; mean±SD) moderate-to-severe (PASI=15±8) were matched race eleven (EASI=15±3) subjects. rCFU (femA qPCR) greater L vs NL (p=0.014) as (p=0.045). positivity rates 38% 15%, compared to 82% 73% sites, respectively) 0% healthy controls (N=11). CFU at 0.8 CFU/cm2 (geometric mean; range:0-5074) 0.1 (range:0-1) PS, while 155.8 (range:0-8000) 20.9 Live significantly (p=0.0027) well (p=0.0007). its counterpart (p=0.0156) similar trend (p=0.0625). (CFU rCFU) did not correlate baseline TEWL disease Although could be cultured more commonly than controls, neither measure reflected integrity. Using these methods, we found markedly higher levels (NL L) L). Our work suggests that subjects’ activity less influenced their hospitable

The Role of Staphylococcus Aureus Types and Toxin-Producing Ability in Pediatric Atopic Dermatitis and its Association with Disease Severity

Background: The skin of patients with atopic dermatitis has a high susceptibility to staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) colonization known to produce toxins with super antigen (SAgs) activity which are a family of potent immune-stimulatory exotoxins and may aggravate AD. The aim of this research was to evaluate the ro...

Staphylococcus Aureus Carriage in Patients with Psoriasis

Background: The aggravating role of Staphylococcus aureus is well known in atopic dermatitis but has not yet been proven in psoriasis. The role of Staphylococcus aureus superantigens is emphasized in the initiation, maintenance and complications of psoriasis. We investigated the frequency of nasal, axillary, and perineal carriage of Staphylococcus aureus (SA) in patients with psoriasis and its ...

Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus colonization in children with atopic dermatitis.

Children with atopic dermatitis are more frequently colonized with Staphylococcus aureus than children without atopic dermatitis. However, little epidemiological data exist regarding the prevalence of methicillin-resistant S. aureus among children with atopic dermatitis. Recent studies have revealed an increasing prevalence of community-associated methicillin-resistant S. aureus among patients ...

Treatment of Staphylococcus aureus colonization in atopic dermatitis decreases disease severity.

OBJECTIVES The goals were to determine the prevalence of community-acquired methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus colonization in patients with atopic dermatitis and to determine whether suppression of S aureus growth with sodium hypochlorite (bleach) baths and intranasal mupirocin treatment improves eczema severity. METHODS A randomized, investigator-blinded, placebo-controlled study w...

Psoriasis and Atopic Dermatitis

Psoriasis and atopic dermatitis are common, chronic inflammatory skin diseases. We discuss several aspects of these disorders, including: risk factors; incidence and prevalence; the complex disease burden; and the comorbidities that increase the clinical significance of each disorder. We also focus on treatment management strategies and outline why individualized, patient-centered treatment reg...
